Beau's Birth Story

I'm writing this post a YEAR later! I love looking back on the birth story around their birthdays and BEAU didn't have one! I never wrote one! Luckily, I have pictures, videos and a few notes in my phone to help me remember.

Long story short, I had to change doctors at 38 weeks because of our small town, the doctor didnt have coverage so I had to go up to St G. I transferred to Dr. Kvardfort. I met him at my 38 week appointment, he was very kind. I left the appointment and called my friend Emily and she said "GO BACK AND GET YOUR MEMBRANES STRIPPED!" So I called the office and they let me go back. It wasn't as bad as everyone says. It supposed to get labor going. So I went home with cramps and anticipation of this baby coming! At that time I was 3cm/80% effaced.
This is our last photo as a family of 3. We went to the grocery store and a walk trying to get the contractions going. As soon as I stopped walking, they would stop.  The contractions would come and go during the night. I called the hospital and they told me to stay home. It was so hard to sleep. Cass went to work that morning.
On Friday the 22nd Cole and I walked to Grammy and Scotty's house. It was 4 miles round trip. I tried to get my contractions going but as soon as I stopped walking they would stop. I went to Mesa View again to see where I was at. 4.5 cm. I had my LOVELY coworker Sallie check me. She was so sweet and encouraging. I went home and the contractions would stop as soon as I slowed down.
Hahaha I had to add this picture. Sallie told me that the baby was posterior. So to get his head turned the right way, she showed me a few ways to lay. Cole was very supportive and was my little buddy through the whole thing.

That morning I woke up, I walked to the hospital 2 miles to get my contractions going. I went and saw Sallie again and she checked me and I was at a 5cm and she stretched me a little bit. After that, my contractions were getting stronger and more frequent, but still not enough but I was so ready to get the baby out! So Cass picked me up and we went to the St George Hospital. I wanted to get my contractions up and going by the time I went to the triage. So I walked around the St George temple twice, it was a beautiful day to have a baby!
It was go time! They admitted me and I got to walk around and get my contractions going more. I was admitted at noon, I was at 5cm and contracting every 5-6 minutes. I was put into room 317. My contractions were very tolerable. I didn't get into bed and stayed up or bounced on the yoga ball.  They started my IV and let us walk the halls. I made progress and go to 6cm. Dr K broke my water, he came in wearing flip flops, shorts and his long uncombed hair. Our little man Cole came to visit. Grammy and Scottie brought him. When he walked into the room, he went straight to the yoga ball. Emily is my friend that took pictures and video of this special time!

I stood at the edge of the bed and laid my top half over and rocked back and forth making progress. Cass was always right by side helping me through every contraction. The baby was turned a little bit, so we tried different positions to get him to turn. I was indecisive on getting the epidural, I was at a 8cm and kinda stopped making progress and it was getting painful, so I got the epidural. I got the "tall girl" dose and it dropped my blood pressures to 70/40. They kept asking me if I was okay but I didn't feel good at all but I didn't know what was wrong. They gave me medication to speed up my heart rate and my heart felt like it was pounding out of my chest. They started pitocin and put me on the peanut ball, rotating me left to right trying to get the babies head to turn. I was 9.5cm and the nurse Cathy (WHO WAS THE BEST!!!) she came in and massaged me and the babies head was right there and she found some clots. They called the doctor and he wasn't concerned. Baby came out pretty such without pushing, the doctor kept telling me not to breathe because he wanted the baby to come out slower than what he was. The baby was placed right on my chest and the bonding started instantly. His cry was so sweet and he did so well. I got to hold him for an hour before we weighed him. He weighed in at 8lbs 12 oz. 20" tall.

This was the shape of Beau's head! haha you can tell he was a little crooked.

Baby Beau still didn't have a name at this time in his life! We were still trying to get to know him. We were transferred to the "closet" is what people say. The rooms are small but we had a good first night! Beau slept in the nursery for a little while. And Cass was going on 48 hours of no sleep. So he was a bit tired! We are so happy this little man made it safe and sound! WE LOVE HIM WITH ALL OUR HEARTS!!!
