Bringing Beau home

Beau will be 3 weeks old tomorrow! Where does the time go? I’ve been wanting to blog about this experience but I’m finding myself with less and less time! And just wanting to sleep! Beau has been such a blessing in our now family of 4! He has been an “easy” addition to our family. He has just blended right in. I’m not sure if it’s because he is an easy newborn or Cass and I are a little more experienced as parents. Our biggest concern was how Cole was going to take to a new baby at home. The first two weeks were easy! Cole just totally ignored him and didn’t really notice a difference, just that Dad was home all day/night and had a constant play buddy. Cole also did get sick when Beau was a week old. Cole had fevers of 104, we alternated Tylenol and Motrin and he would continue to have a low grade fever. You could tell by the way he walked that his little body hurt. He is a tough little guy and is happy and healthy now!

At about week 2 Cole has like 2-3 days of straight up grumpiness. He was constantly whining. I felt like his thoughts were “okay, can this baby go home now?” It really tested Cass and I’s patience but we were able to work through it!

Cole now gives brother kisses (from a distance), says his name, and will point out his eyes, ears, mouth, nose, and head. Also, he always wants to make sure that brother has his Binky! Cole is still very attached to his. Cole gets upset when Beau cries (that’s usually just during a bum change)

Beau has been the sweetest newborn. He sleeps and eats so well. He has already had 4 hour stretches of sleep through the night. He is breastfeeding and we haven’t had any issues! He is alert every once and a while and we really enjoy that time. He sleeps the BEST in my arms. Which I just love to sit and snuggle. Our favorite things about Beau:

  • When we pick him up he grunts. A big, long grunt 😂
  • When he is hungry and we give him the binky he makes a “oouuyy goouuy goouy” sound
  • He loves baths
  • His head bobs when he is looking for some milk.
  • Easy going! And sleeps!
  • He is a gassy baby! He really works to get out these little high pressured farts. It makes us all laugh.
  • Cass was changing his bum and Beau launched a poop off the kitchen table onto the floor. It was hilarious.
  • When he is gassy and it hurts. He will do one scream/cry and then he is done.

Having these two boys close together is so fun! It just feels right! We are a happy family! The first week at home we received 4 amazing meals from the ward and one from Grammy. My mom and aunt Ruthie came for a few days and took care of us. It takes a village to raise children and I have a pretty awesome village.
